Erik Karlsson won’t join Senators on Western Canadian road trip

Captain Erik Karlsson won’t join the Ottawa Senators on the team’s current road trip through Western Canada, according to general manager Pierre Dorion.

Dorion told reporters on Wednesday that he’s hopeful the star defenceman will join the Senators “at some point in time next week.” Karlsson hasn’t suffered any type of setback in the recovery from surgery to repair torn tendons in his left foot, said Dorion, but needs more time to get game-ready.

“No setback. It’s all about when he’ll be ready to play,” Dorion said via Bruce Garrioch. “It’s all about conditioning and he’s got to get used to a different sensation in his feet but there’s no setback.”

Karlsson suffered the injury during the Senators’ run to the Eastern Conference Finals in the spring, but played in excess of 28 minutes per game and racked up 18 points in 19 games.
